Google Antigravity: The Free Way In

Last updated 2026-07-22

Antigravity is Google's agent-first development environment, launched in late 2025 alongside Gemini 3. Where Claude Code and Codex are agents you talk to, Antigravity is a full workspace (it looks like a code editor) where AI agents work across the editor, the terminal, and a built-in browser, showing you their work as they go.

Why it's interesting for beginners

  • The price. Antigravity launched free with generous usage of Gemini 3 Pro. If you want to try vibe coding without a subscription, this is currently the lowest-cost door in.
  • You can watch the agent work. Antigravity produces "artifacts" (plans, screenshots, browser recordings) so you see what the agent did and why, not just the final code. For learning, that transparency is genuinely useful.
  • The browser is built in. The agent can open your app, click around, and verify things work. That's the "check your own work" habit we preach, built into the product.

Getting started

  1. Download it at antigravity.google (Mac, Windows, Linux) and sign in with a Google account.
  2. Open a new folder, open the agent panel, and describe your first small build. Same plain-English approach as every tool we cover.
  3. Review the plan it proposes before letting it run. Antigravity leans into showing plans up front, so get in the habit of actually reading them.

Antigravity vs. Claude Code, honestly

  • Antigravity is a place your agents work in; Claude Code is an agent that works in your world: your files, your existing tools. Beginners starting from zero may find Antigravity's all-in-one setup friendlier; people building real business systems usually end up wanting Claude Code's depth.
  • Model-wise, Gemini 3 is a serious model. The workflow and reliability differences matter more than benchmark scores for what we do on the show.
  • Our honest take: try Antigravity if free matters most right now. Graduate deliberately. The habits transfer.
